Happy Easter!

We went home for Easter and had a wonderful weekend. Jack did so well, even with staying at a different house every night for 3 nights! He is such a little trooper. All of the grandparents and even great-grandparents got time with him. He has been a little clingy the last month or so and likes for me to hold him (which I don't mind one bit)! :) Other than that, he hasn't shown too much stranger anxiety. Over Easter he started to wave and he was giving a ton of kisses!

On our last day in NE Erik got the flu. It was a rough drive home for him so he crawled into bed right when we got home. I did bedtime for Jack and then cooked Erik some homemade chicken stalk and spinach noodles.

It's hard seeing someone you love be sick and not feel well. This especially seems true when it is a man for some reason. I used to hate it when my dad got sick and now I feel the same about Erik. He is always such a hard worker and never let's on when he is tired or uncomfortable so for him to be laid up for a day I knew he it must be pretty bad. He reminds me so much of my dad in that regard. Thankfully it was a pretty quick flu, he was still achy the next day but was feeling much better. Unfortunately, it was my turn. It is really difficult to take care of a 9 month old when you have the flu but Erik was a huge help as soon as he got home from work. Some how Jack never got it, but he did get a bad cold that we are still trying to recover from. He has had a difficult time sleeping because his nose is so stuffy. I feel bad for him and wish so badly I could make it all better.

Being sick is no fun but I can't help but think about how lucky we are to have been as healthy as we have. It's definitely a good reminder to not take your health for granted. There are so many people that are dealing with chronic pain or diseases, I can handle a little cold or the flu. Maybe God was trying to teach us to be thankful for what we have and to see the good in the bad. Always look for how he blesses us even when we feel like things are could be better. I am so glad that he is in control of my life knows the whole picture. What a great reminder just after Easter, that He has risen, and will be our protector from now through eternity.

Funny Face

A few months ago Jack started to do the cutest thing.  He crinkles up his nose and breathes in and out loudly.  He will do it on his own or he will mimic us if we initiate it. When he first learned to do it, we couldn't get any pictures of him smiling because he would always make the funny face.  This is one of our favorites :)
Could he be any cuter?!!

Spring is Here

The weather has been wonderful the last couple weeks. I can't believe that winter can truly be over here in South Dakota. We got really lucky this year. So far I have crocus, tulips, and daffodils blooming and it makes me so happy to look out into my yard and see color! It was a little breezy today but I couldn't resist sitting little Jack by some daffodils for a few pictures. He had fun trying to eat the mulch and colorful blossoms :)

Purpose

I am going to use this blog as a way of documenting our family life.  It will be a great way for us to look back and remember all of the things that have made our lives so wonderful as well as a way for me to share my feelings with the most important people in my life. Jack is already over 9 months old and I feel like time is getting away from me.  I so badly want to freeze every moment; the first few days in the hospital, late night feedings, hearing him laugh for the first time, seeing his first tooth, and all of the new changes that come on a daily basis.  I want to remember everything. Not a day has gone by that I haven't felt such a deep love for him and such gratitude that God has blessed us with his life. I have told Erik a few times that I feel like Jack is MY HEART.
